In the small town with the small swimming pool, the favourite teacher, Mrs Tobb, suddenly collapses during swimming lessons, as if all her bones had disappeared from her body. Splash! She's a big fish now, shock! ‘Fish belong in water,’ says Miri. But Mrs Tobb doesn't feel very comfortable in the swimming pool, so another solution is needed!
Mrs Tobb is a symbol. She embodies change, the initial shock after receiving potentially bad news, or even the loss of a loved one, in whatever form.
Dealing with illness, loss and grief is often told in very emotional stories, but in the story about Mrs Tobb, these themes are conveyed unnoticed.
Not that the story should not also be emotional and perhaps sad, but it should also be funny, confusing at first, and absurd.
